Why is it $20 to post a listing after the first free one? It's free to post on Instagram and some of the big job boards.
Listings cost $20 for 30 days (after your first free listing, of course) because that allows us to be completely transparent about how we cover the costs of operating the board.
Our sole business activity, and our whole purpose, is to share local small businesses' jobs and projects with local job seekers.
We don't have ads on our site, we don't sell your personal data or email address to marketers, we don't have an unfair “sponsored listing” scheme where we charge extra to make your listings more visible, we don't have a confusing algorithm.
One price for everyone, no shady or annoying business practices. All listings are treated equally no matter what. That's how we roll!
What geographic area does Small Business Jobs WNY cover?
We're active across the Western New York region, with a primary focus on Buffalo and the surrounding communities. All listings are from small business employers that are located in Western New York.
Who can post jobs and projects on SBJ WNY?
Our goal is to help WNY's small, independently-owned businesses like the ones in your neighborhood or your town's commercial districts, or the many businesses being operated out of the homes, offices, and studios of independent service providers, artisans, and practitioners.
If you're in Western New York and you own a business like that, Small Business Jobs WNY is for you. We welcome listings from all kinds of small businesses in any industry, as long as they meet our Community Guidelines. We also encourage listings from small WNY-based non-profit organizations.
We're not the right fit for corporations and other large businesses, staffing agencies, or recruiters (there are other job boards out there for them!)
What kind of jobs will be posted here?
We have full-time, part-time, and seasonal jobs. We also allow posts for project-based work, where a business owner needs to hire a freelancer or independent contractor for a specific project or task. The one thing that all jobs and projects have in common is that the employer is a WNY-based small business owner.
If I post a job, am I going to get a bunch of incorrect candidate ‘matches’ or other notifications from Small Business Jobs WNY that I need to deal with?
No, we don't do candidate matching or participate in any part of the hiring process. From what we've heard, candidate matching on Indeed and other boards just doesn't work well, and we're trying to make your life easier instead of harder. In your job post, you'll provide application instructions so interested candidates can reach out to you in exactly the way you want them to. No new inboxes to monitor, no spam.
What are some examples of project work?
Project listings are for one-time or short-term work you'd hire a freelancer or independent contractor for. Examples include logo creation or graphic design, website development, photography or videography, copywriting, social media content, and event planning. If you want to hire ongoing help rather than a one-time project, a job listing is a better fit.
Job boards are already a thing. Why do we need this?
Big job boards that serve huge geographic areas are impersonal, and they're built and priced for huge employers. Small business owners in WNY deserve a simpler, more affordable way to find great candidates, and local job seekers deserve an easier way to find work with the businesses they already know and love in their community.
What information do I need to submit to post a listing?
You'll need the job title, your business name and brief description, job category, city and county the job is located in, a brief description of the role, whether the role is part-time or full-time, and instructions for how applicants should reach you. Schedule, pay rate, and application deadline are optional to provide. You can also indicate if the job is seasonal. For project listings, you'll also provide an expected timeline and optional budget range.

Does Small Business Jobs WNY participate in the interviewing and hiring process?
No. We're a listing board only, not a hiring platform. Applicants should contact job posters directly using the instructions provided in the job post. We don't participate in any part of the interviewing or hiring process.
